It seems strange to the believer that men question Jesus’ claims to be God. Some say that He never claimed such, but they are not the real fact seekers.

“Before Abraham was I am”, throughout the O.T. Jesus, the Word of God, who was made flesh, had told us of His coming as our savior. Isaiah 53:5 (written long before His coming) But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (KJV). That was written hundreds of years before He came.

Jesus told us when here: John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father. (KJV)

Men constantly stumble over the facts surrounding this One who came to die in their place. The problem with missing truth is the resulting confusion and ridicule that any man who rejects it becomes subject to.

Missing the facts causes men of unbelief to ridicule God’s word in order to justify their unbelief.

Men of Jesus day never really doubted that Jesus was crucified, but they must doubt that He was God with a revealed plan that included His Crucifixion and Resurrection. They stumbled over the the very cornerstone of their salvation. Once He was killed at their own hand, they seemed to go completely blind spiritually. They can be compared with the WOKE of our own day. They just could not see truth, because it was an abomination to them.

Israel’s Tel Aviv University Professor of Anthropology Professor Israel Hershkovitz, reveals a human heal bone that when discovered was the only human archeological evidence of crucifixion in existence. It may still be the only evidence. But remember all of this was fully known to the religious whore of Jesus’ day.

But to us, what this discovery reveals is not what has been traditionally understood and taught concerning Crucifixions, including Jesus’ own Crucifixion. And yet even without it we believed God’s word, because it was God’s word.

But, according to this evidence Jesus would have been nailed to the cross much differently than we were told to believe it.

Also, in this discovery of the only hand bone ever discovered with a crucifixion nail embedded, it was learned that the hand was nailed with the nail entering from the back of the hand protruding through the palm and not through the wrist. Theologians had come up with the wrist theory in spite of Jesus’ own words, because they concluded it to be the only way that the body can be supported on the cross. But wouldn’t Jesus have know better than even a theologian how He would be crucified.

Thus the traditional thinking that the nails pierced the wrist not the hand as Jesus had told it; and they did that in order to support their understanding that the upper body must hav been supported that way. That understanding is incorrect and really it is unscriptural as well. In Isaiah 49, Jesus calls our attention to His pierced palms. This His statement, of course, would have been correct even if the nail entered through the back of the hand through the palm. “Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me”.

Isaiah 49:16 KJV

The following photo reveals the probable position of our savior on the cross.

As you examine this you can see that the arms and hands are over the top of and behind the crossbeam, and not in front of it as became man’s understanding. “ lean not unto thy own understanding”. His feet would be stratal the upright post and nailed to the sides of the post. The arms would be above the cross beam in order to lend much more support for the body. The shoulder area would actually be the main support for the body weight. And one can imagine from that positioning, just how excruciatingly painful that would become in quick time. The hands which were nailed behind the beam would not support weight as such, but those nails would not allow the victim to readjust from this painful position that they would be held securely in.

The Roman’s objective was to extend the suffering for as long as possible.

Jesus’ death is revealed in scripture as taking about 6 hours. This was much less than the normal time on a Roman cross, which could have been days rather than hours.

Dr Hunter, who presented this material, does his usual very thorough job of explaining the reasons for Jesus’ more limited time on the cross. He states that based on Jesus’ prior injuries (by His stripes we are healed) through the scourging of the whip. Then there was His fall while carrying the very heavy cross beam on the Via Dolorosa route to the place of the skull where His Crucifixion occurred. That fall would have produced more blood loss. Thus already even before He went to the Cross He was in a very weakened state. If you are able to see this documentary, it is well worth viewing.

But all of His suffering was foretold in His Word centuries before it happened. He foretold it, how does that not convince even the most skeptical? Read Psalm 22, and Isiah 53, for only two of the more than 300 Old Testament prophecies concerning Him. And don’t try to tell me that He is not God the Son, our only savior. Unless you believe you will also suffer as He did for your sin. Oh how foolish is that unbelief.
