1 Thessalonians 5:1 Now as to the periods and times, brothers [and sisters,] you have no need [of anything] to be written to you. 2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord is coming just like a thief in the night.

This Day of The Lord’s coming will surprise the world which at the time is crying out for peace, but it will not surprise those who belong to God. The entire world just before Jesus coming will be seeking peace and safety:

1 Thessalonians 5:3 While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction will come upon them like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

But what they desire peace and safety, comes instead a very sudden destruction that they will not escape. The evil men that we see will at that time be met with unescapable wrath at His Coming. The world will be given her last chance in the valley of decision during the Tribulation before Jesus Comes.

1 Thessalonians 5:4 But you, brothers [and sisters,] are not in darkness, so that the day would overtake you like a thief; 5 for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;

We are the sons of God if Christ be in us. And when Jesus comes as a thief in the night to this world, we in Christ, will not be surprised. For we believe Jesus, and He has told us of this coming; for what we are to watch.

Mark 13:23 “But beware; I have told you everything in advance. 24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, 25 AND THE STARS WILL BE FALLING from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken. 26 “And then they will see THE SON OF MAN COMING IN CLOUDS with great power and glory. 27 “And then He will send forth the angels, and will gather together His elect from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of heaven. Jesus has told us of this appearance as a thief in the night, and therefore we are not in darkness at that time, even though the world will be caught in total surprise you and I who are alive and remain will not be surprised by the darkness of these days before His coming, when the Sun and Moon cease to shine just as Joel has told us, and the stars are falling from the sky yielding darkness for the coming of our Lord as a thief in the night, for the darkness will cover the entire earth in these days just before His coming.

1 Thessalonians 5:6 so then, let’s not sleep as others do, but let’s be alert and sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we are of [the] day, let’s be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.
