I think that it is important to observe the nature of the New Covenant at the time of its promise; as well as the nature of it, as we see it brought into beeing in the New Testament. Do these different sources lay out for us a good understanding of Gods intent for the people of this Covenant?  And just who are these recipients of this new and uniquely different experience with God as Savior of individuals.

Were there conditions either directly stated or implied within the Covenant?  (This question may need to be the subject of another different post?)

We will find the covenant promise made in Jeremiah 31, beginning in verse 27 through to the end of that chapter.  In it we find or notice in vs 30 that this Covenant is an individual Covenant, where every man is responsible for even his own lifespan, and that will result from the way that life is lived. Listen:

Jeremiah 31:30  “But everyone will die for his own iniquity; each man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth will be set on edge. (NASB1995)

A couple of things are evident in these verses. Concerning “the who” of the covenant. There is no mention here of Gentiles, yet we are now considered to be the main recipient of this covenant. – Why? -, and is this the only understanding of what is and is not presented to whom?

If we look at the New Testament, we begin to find potential answers:  Simeon helps us to see the Gentile involvement.  He according to Luke was given special revelation concerning the Christ who was to come and seal this New Covenant with both Israel and Judah according to Jeremiah.  But this is what Simeon says about this child brought to him, who is the Christ (See Isa. 49:6): He is:

Luke 2:32  A LIGHT OF REVELATION TO THE GENTILES, And the glory of Your people Israel.” (NASB1995)

I did not put the emphasis within this verse; the translators did that. But based upon what we read in Jeremiah and here in Luke concerning this New Covenant, there are some interesting questions.  Jeremiah speaks of this Covenant as being for Israel and Judah.  Simeon speaks of the Christ of the New Covenant and mentions it to be for Israel and the Gentiles, with no mention of the Jews or Judah? This revelation to Simeon is being stated at a time when Judah and Benjamin are basically the only tribes among the twelve who are represented in what is then still called by name “Israel”, so the 10 tribes of Israel were still considered lost, as they are even today.  But, there is this theory that they will still be discovered.

So we are dealing somewhat with theory concerning my questions, but one existing theory says that at least some of those now called Gentiles are being added to the Church and to the Olive tree and these “some” are actually from the 10 lost tribes of Israel.  You would need to study this out, to see why this is potentially a valid consideration for this theory to be actually considered as truth.

But I have a couple of questions that I can’t seem to find a reasonable answer for other than the one that I’m about to present.  Question One, why is Jesus called in Scripture “the King of the Jews”?  Why not king of Israel; that is if it is Gods plan to bring back the ten lost tribes of Israel.  Two: why does Paul state that a true Jew is one who has had his heart circumcised.  Again why not state what a true “Israelite” is instead of emphasizing just the true Jew?  I do have a couple of thoughts on this.  One: we as Gentiles are grafted into the Olive Tree. Two: once the last Gentile is saved then the Jews will be added back, according to Paul’s discourse in Romans, “and then all Israel will be saved”.  There is no mention of Israel’s lost 10 tribes here, telling us how or even if they are among Israel at this time; but is it implied? No mention, except that after all Gentiles and Jews are added to this tree; then Paul concludes that “all Israel will be saved”.  So, do we almost have to conclude that the ten lost tribes are being saved along with the Gentiles, as we (with them) are potentially all being added to Jesus’ Church together with even a good number of Jews today?  I can basically make no other conclusion than this; especially, when we see the 10 Tribes  basically being (intentionally?) left out of the conversation by God up until and during at least some of Revelations period of time. Then they appear suddenly where there is the sealing of all twelve tribes.

So, if we are living, as I do believe us to be, in the last days and then are very near to the great deception that is coming for this world, which Jesus and Paul warned is to impact even believers; and if we are so very close to the Great Tribulation and to Jesus actual coming, as so many believers think today; then my conclusion has to include as a possibility that any one of us could be a member of the 10 lost tribes of Israel.  And this also aligns with the understanding of Scriptures teaching concerning this Church of these end times needing to proceed through the Tribulation itself because only those individuals who are “in Christ” (meaning in his Church) will come forth accounted as being saved at the end of the Tribulation.
