This is a continuation of our look at the US.
Numbers 14:18 ‘The Lord is slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generations.’
So it is seen not only in our life experiences but in the word of God that sin is too easily passed on from Generation to Generation. And the pattern really never stops. Sin is ever present in this world where man chooses his own way and follows his own desires. So who then is responsible for sin?
Deuteronomy 24:16 “Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor shall sons be put to death for their fathers; everyone shall be put to death for his own sin.
Throughout scripture it is noted that sin carries with it a death sentence. That sentence is carried out in two ways. “It is appointed unto man once to die and then comes the judgment”. Jesus said “when I return I will judge every man for what he has done”.
Death occurs spiritually when sin overtakes us, and God has given sin a death sentence. How then do we find hope?
Is Repentance necessary?
I want you to think with me beyond natural death to the consequence of spiritual death.
1 Kings 8:46 “When they sin against You (for there is no person who does not sin) and You are angry with them and turn them over to an enemy, so that they take them away captive to the land of the enemy, distant or near;
Let’s stop here for a moment and think spiritually. Sin is our enemy. It is capable of taking us captive, and in fact does. God has always promised escape from captivity.
1 Kings 8:47 if they take it to heart in the land where they have been taken captive, and repent and implore Your favor in the land of those who have taken them captive, saying, ‘We have sinned and done wrong, we have acted wickedly’; (NASB2020)
Stop: repentance has always been God’s call to man. Repentance is turning to hate your sin captor and love the God who created you for better things. This entire passage in 1Kings is about human captors, but if you are alert you readily see that sin is the real captor and punisher of man even unto our own day. Turn to God in hatred of your sin and He will deliver you from its bondage.
Your enemy has come to rob and to steal. Sin is his accomplice. Jesus has defeated him, but only for those who turn to Him for deliverance.
In this land in this day we are seeing the affects of sin on men who refuse that deliverance. We are being led by them and our land is greatly effected by their deceptions. Our awakening if it leads to repentance can and will turn the tide. But for us, God’s people, to overlook our sin and the sin of this nation leads only to further destruction.
We are represented in scripture as the eagle 🦅. He must spread his wings and fly. Only as God once again spreads righteousness across this nation can this happen. Then God will once again bless this nation.
