Throughout the last approximately 180+ years some in the church have been informing the rest in the body that the rapture is imminent. One of the reasons given has been that there are no signs for the rapture itself. So It could occur at any time. Garcia of states this teaching of dispensational “truth” this way:

“The Rapture of the Church is the only sign-less event noted in Scripture. Every other prophetic event has either signs for, or other things that lead up to it. The Rapture does not.”

So because of this thinking some Christians have been looking for and teaching the Imminence of this event throughout this 180 year period. Of course the teaching today from Dispensationalist is that some Christians have always believed this over the entire period of the last 2000 years. But today we also hear taught that this our time is really the “time of” this long awaited event. Here is how Garcia states this point:

“While it is impossible to know the day or hour of the Rapture of the Church (Mark 13:32), it is however, possible to recognize the season of His return and our subsequent deliverance (1st Thess. 5:1-3, Hebrews 10:25).” These quotes come from his article, The End Is Neigh, Ten Reasons Why.

It is the signs that give us reason to look for Jesus’ return. So, although I and many other believers, who disagree with Garcia and the Dispensationalist exact view of Imminence; still we would agree with what he does concerning this being the recognizable season for Jesus to return, following the signs He gave. What is important for us to understand in so doing is that it would be impossible to reconcile Garcia’s two statements. Think about what I’m saying here. He says there are supposedly no signs for the Rapture, yet believers then through the last almost 2000 years have been held responsible for looking for Jesus return for the Church, for which they say there are no signs. So then believers throughout church history were looking for Jesus’ return when there could be no evidences of the rapture that they were looking for, (nothing to state the appointed time). If this were the case; then were they not misunderstanding their time? And by so doing would Jesus not also reprimand them for not understanding their time, even as He did the Jews of His day?

So why do we think that today is the appointed season? Is it not because today is the only time in history that the seasons are ripening with signs given in scripture? It then is only because of the signs that we can expect His return in the Second Coming. But understanding this, is it not also required of us to recognize that Tribulation is coming as part of these our times?

But we are told by Dispensationalist that the two comings are unconnected. There are no signs for the Rapture (they say), yet we will know the times and the seasons Paul says. Just how can one do that if all the signs are just for the Second Coming? Does this not mean that there is a strong connection? And if they are connected; then the Imminence of His Coming is tied to the completion of the signs of His coming. Here is what Paul says: Now as to the times and the epochs (seasons), brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 NASB

Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?

2 Thessalonians 2:1-5 NASB

Paul has clearly stated that it is “the day of the Lord” that will come as a thief in the night, and that it will not come until the Antichrist will declare Himself as God in the temple of God.

That being the case there is no evidence that they are two separate events, but aside from this there is much evidence that they are one and the same event. I list those many reasons throughout the many posts on this blog site.

If you really want to know what the scriptures promise for this our times and season, then you need to explore the articles on this site. I hesitate calling it mine, because we really have nothing in this world that God has not provided to us. If we are wise enough to understand our times, then our wisdom has come from God alone.

God bless as you study.
