We will take up at his third point.
3. THE SEED OF ABRAHAM. ISRAEL- physical seed. CHURCH- a spiritual seed.
4. BIRTH. ISRAEL- physical; CHURCH- Spiritual
Obviously these are the same point. So let’s see what the scriptures have to say.
Jesus states: John 4:23-24 But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Our question must be — Is Israel not going to be among the true worshipers of God? Is she even able to enter the kingdom apart from the new birth? According to Chaffer this obvious change which is coming and now is is not for Israel as it is for all others following Christ’s first coming.
Romans 8:1-3 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, Romans 8:4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
So Chafer concludes that Israel will remain recipients of the physical promises, and allows the church to abscond with the spiritual.
The Spiritual is based upon the promise of the New Covenant, which is first promised to Israel. We reap the benefit of this because of their rejection of it, thus far, but in the end they are re-grafted into it. And when that happens the time for God’s offer of Salvation to the Gentiles will also be complete.
Romans 8:5-7 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,
If what Chafer says here in these 2 points (3&4) is true, then Israel will remain with the enemies of God even during the Millennium. But Paul refutes Chafer on both of these points. Listen:
Romans 9:6-8 But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel; because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, nor are they all children because they are Abraham’s descendants, but: “through Isaac your descendants will be named.” That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants.
Romans 9:22-27, 29-32 Romans 10:1-4, 11-14, 16-18 Romans 11:1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation. I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. For not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. But I say, surely they have never heard, have they? Indeed they have;“ Their voice has gone out into all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world.” What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory, even us, whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles. As He says also in Hosea, “I will call those who were not My people, ‘My people,’ And her who was not beloved, ‘beloved.’” “And it shall be that in the place where it was said to them, ‘you are not My people,’There they shall be called sons of the living God.” Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, “Though the number of the sons of Israel be like the sand of the sea, it is the remnant that will be saved; And just as Isaiah foretold, “Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left to us a posterity, We would have become like Sodom, and would have resembled Gomorrah.” What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith; but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,
This I believe makes it clear that the same gospel we received they must also hear and believe. Israel without faith is no different than the rest of the world without faith.
5. HEADSHIP. ISRAEL- Abraham; CHURCH– Christ
John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
So, in my opinion This Abraham headship statement I must say is ludicrous, it implies that the title “King of the Jews” had no meaning on the Cross at Calvary. It implies that Abraham not Christ will be the head of Israel during the Millennium. Chafer like so many Dispensationalist overlooks clear teachings of scripture in order to be able to claim an escape from a time for which the believers presence is much needed in order to make them jealous and bring them into the fold.
The present day church with her corrupted messaging concerning Israel and the church has not made her jealous, but a future body of unified believers in their Messiah will.
