No this is not about the presidential or midterm elections.  It is about the Elect of God.  I’ve written before, on this election or about what is stated in another way in Scripture as predestination.  There is strong wording in Scripture about the elect of God, and within that discussion from Scripture itself there has been developed the doctrine of election, and for some that election is without choice. 

In formulating that doctrine we must ask some pertinent questions of the Scripture.  The first question is this: does Scripture elsewhere give us any clarification concerning this our God and His desires for mankind. For it is this creator God, who is often seen in His word as one, who is choosing some men for salvation and other’s for hell without giving either the opportunity to choose freely for or against Him?  Is this having not the freedom to choose to seek God, an accurate depiction resulting in a dogmatic assumption?   

Or, Is it being taken out of context concerning the our God.   Is it all truth and in keeping with the understanding of the Characteristics of the God of the Bible (our God)?

The election verses state plainly that God chose those who are elect to be His and He did this before the earth was ever founded or created.  It is also clear in this regard, that others who remain apart from us are chosen for a lake of fire.  If He did this separation (and He did); then the next question is obvious: is He or has He been a just God in His choosing of these; because Scripture also says that He loves justice, so is He then not applying that justice when He determines His election? 

“For God so loved the world”, what could this love for the world mean in light of election?  For we must all begin our life as sinners, without any righteousness of our own. Are worldly men, who are obviously without Christ truly included in this love and have they been given freedom to choose? 

Just how does the truth that God wishes that none should perish, as Scripture clearly states fit this complicated scenario?  Did not Jesus (the Son of God) pay for the sins of the whole world?  Why then has the world rejected Him?  Did they have any choice?  Or are they predestined to reject; or are they predestined because they do reject of their own free will?  These are very serious questions when stating your doctrine on Election. 

It is my belief that Scripture does not disappoint us on this question, not if we truly want the answer; for it is plain from Scripture that He is just.   If we do not have that as our foundation when studying Scripture, we will fail God and others. So how do we reconcile the fact that both election and Justice are true in Scripture; because, they are opposed within the teaching of much of the Church.  

Just what is election?

A just God would give every man  some chance to find Him if he individually so desired in his heart to do that. And so, in fact, we find that God has made that a possibility.  The very creation itself provides evidence that God is and that He is every man’s creator.  We are told this in Scripture? 

Romans 1:18  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,  

This verse tells that God must deal with His Own wrath, as He deals with every man’s unrighteousness.  Jesus therefore was sent to do both. To  pay for sin taking God’s wrath upon Himself, and then, to in the end, dole out wrath to all who accept not His payment.  

Now back to Paul, as he goes on with his revelation of man, who is presented without excuse in Romans 1:

19  because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.  20  For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. (NASB1995)

Here we learn that men were created to know that He, God, exists.  He has at the creation of each individual placed within them (God made it evident to them) what is obviously before them in the creation itself.  He did this because He is just. This makes each of us, not God, responsible for the understanding of this fact that was given to each of us, and then we became responsible for seeking for this (yet unknown to each of us) God. 

John 3:16  “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.  17  “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.  18  “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  19  “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.   20  “For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. (NASB1995)

Verse 20 here, takes us back to Romans 1:18  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.  

So it is because man hides the truth that is within him because of his love for his own unrighteousness and sin.  It then is that he suppresses this truth that God so loved him. Man, in fact, loves his sin and the world more than he loves his savior.  A just God though He weeps over mankind is not responsible for man’s choosing to seek or not to seek after his creator, who is the lover of his soul. 

And so Jesus tells us: seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.  He also tells us that He stands at the door of our heart and knocks: 

Revelation 3:20  ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. (NASB1995)

Paul tells us concerning Israel:

Romans 11:7  What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was diligently seeking, but the elect obtained it. The rest were hardened, (NET)

Why did Israel fail to obtain their own election if this is what they were seeking;  for only some in Israel obtained what all of Israel was seeking?  The answer tells us a great deal about who makes up the elect.  For belief is a requirement.  We must believe what is revealed to our very eyes, and ears.  There were and are believers and unbelievers among the Jews. Only some are those who had eyes to see and ears to hear.  

So why does it say that we were predestined before the foundation of the earth to be His if there is freewill by each individual that determines, just who are among the elect?  Is it because an awesome God has determined that any man who will be in Christ, enduring until the end of the age is therefore predestined to eternal life.  Is it because God knows the end from the beginning of each man’s life. He knew then the ending heart condition of every man who would ever live upon this earth before the creation. Those, who all had been given that same responsibility to seek and also to believe that there is a God who created me:  

Rom. 1:19  because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. Fo this reason they are without excuse. 

Do you think that God would leave Himself open to the criticism of sinful men like us?   

Matthew 5:6  “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. (NASB1995)

Within each then there is the laminin crucial for cell structure in the shape of the cross.  What is seen in life is evidence of the unseen.  Each person has both a conscience and a knowledge of the creator.  This doesn’t negate the fact that we have no righteousness of our own, nor that all our righteousness must come from God. But it does account that in some (possibly most) there is the desire to do unrighteousness, which drives the suppression of the truth, and for them they will refuse to believe.  They behave foolishly while thinking themselves to be wise.  If you are reading this post, it may just be that God has not given up on you. Jesus says: “seek and you shall find.” For God is searching the earth for those who seek after righteousness, who hate their sin.  Blessed is that one.

You (whether a believer or an unbeliever) must be the judge of what is written here in Scripture and of the scientific understanding surrounding God’s creation of man, but I choose to believe what God has already revealed to you, and my friend it is your choice to believe,  for you are without excuse. You are not blindly proceeding, but because you either have not or have sought after Him (and after His righteousness), then you have found yourself wanting or not to establish yourself one with Him.  You right now are making your choice to believe. 

God is Omnipotent it is His justice that will deal justly with you individually according to what he has done with what you will believe concerning His Son. 

Romans 8:33  Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. (NET)

He knows the desires of our heart.  Jesus died for the Sins of this World.  Your sins were paid for; will you believe?
