This passage informs us of Jesus first revealed coming and of His being recognized by some in Israel as their Messiah. True even these expected a King.  All Israel was confused because they expected only one Messiah or one coming of this deliverer. Some among the Jews even eventually thought that there could be two Messiahs: a suffering Messiah and a Messiah king.  

But religious leaders are often confused over Jesus’ and His teachings. But all who believe join themselves to a. king , who is Jewish. We all are ushered into His kingdom: the Commonwealth of Israel. Regardless of our faults He loves us and we are His heirs. Adopted as we are we are becoming in Him co heirs and sons of God. 

I recently heard a preacher proclaiming a message wherein he declared Israel as having been replaced by the Church. He wrote Israel off completely, with no possibility of a return to God’s nationhood status. We cannot be a usurper of the Kingdom, for we are adopted sons.  But his was not an unusual message for today.  But neither was it an accurate one.  Paul declares God’s intent for Israel and the Gentiles in Romans. 

Romans 11:11  I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? Far from it! But by their wrongdoing salvation [has come] to the Gentiles, to make them jealous. (NASB2020)

The highlighted passage above from John’s gospel tells us that Him whom we call Jesus the Christ, is Israel’s Messiah. That has not changed. 

Just as Israel’s Sanhedrin (the bulk of their leaders) had failed to see Israel’s Messiah in their day, even so much of the Church has failed to see Him for who He really is today. 

He is still the Christ, and when we read John 1:41 we find that He is Israel’s Messiah.  And we are of their Commonwealth, one with the saints. 

A failure to understand just who Jesus is, is behind our failure, so far as a body, to make Israel Jealous.  Until we do Jesus will not return. And. when we do Israel will call upon this Jesus their Messiah and ours, for their own salvation, and then He will return.
