2 Peter 3:8 But do not let this one [fact] escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. (NASB1995)
There was a belief stated by some in the early church: that the creation actually was carried out over seven of God’s days, and that it took what would be 7 thousand years of man to complete. The book of Barnabas, which was considered for canonization contained this teaching.
There are verses in Scripture, that could have been the basis to support what Barnabas was teaching, which was: that because God rested on His seventh day (1000 of man’s years) after creation, that Jesus would end creation after 6 Thousand of man’s years, then He is to give us rest from evil on His day of His Millennial reign for 1000 years.
Hosea 6:2 “He will revive us after two days; He will raise us up on the third day, That we may live before Him. (NASB1995)
This is one such verse. It would seem to support such an understanding of one thousand year days. It is preceded by this statement:
Hosea 5:15 I will go away [and] return to My place Until they acknowledge their guilt and seek My face; In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me. (NASB1995)
This seems a prophecy of Jesus speaking to a rejecting lost Israel. Remember there were no chapters and verses when Hosea penned this message from God. I say here from God, but in the O.T. often it was the Word of God who came to the prophets, and The Word was made flesh and dwelt among them (John chapter 1). But these verses in Hosea have a connection in the context of God’s word, but what is it? It seems they would be connected to the one-thousand year length of a day even without these other verses in Scripture. I say this because Jesus did go away, and it appears that He will return sometime near or after two thousand years (2 of Gods days)?
Luke 13:32 And He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third [day] I reach My goal.’ (NASB1995)
The context here has absolutely no meaning in terms of our days as time, so, should we see this as Jesus speaking of God’s one Thousand year days. Jesus ministered for many more than two of man’s days after stating this, but if He is relating something concerning God’s days this then makes perfect sense. And it just might relate to these other messages making this a prophetic message hidden in plain sight within the word.
Jesus was born likely sometime between 6BC and 1Bc. Scholars are not certain of the exact date. He ascended at around age 33 it is believed. We are nearing 2 of Gods days since He had left earth in the asscention. “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third [day] I reach My goal.’
So, my question to you is this: could we be the last generation to await His coming, even as we are seeing based on other of the signs from Scripture concerning His coming? Here is one such that I will share here to cap our thinking:
Daniel 12:4 “But you, Daniel, keep these words secret, and seal the book until the end times. Many will travel everywhere, and knowledge will grow.” (GOD’S WORD)
Daniel 12:10 Many will be purified, made white, and refined. But wicked people will do wicked things, and none of them will understand. Only wise people will understand. (GOD’S WORD)
Daniel 12:13 But go on until the end. You will rest, and you will rise for your inheritance at the end of time.” (GOD’S WORD)
There are only three kinds of people in this world. There are the evil, who have made their choice against God, called wicked here. There are the wise who understand that things are likely progressing on course according to what The God of creation sees, and reveals in The Word. These have chosen His savior, His Son, Jesus. They are for God. And there are the sheep, who will be led by their own understanding of what they hear. Some will be led astray, and some will yet be led to God. The freedom that God has given to man is all about that choice. The day may soon come when men will lose that freedom, because of their refusal to hear, and at that time God will give them over to a reprobate mind. The prophet Joel speaks of this day as the valley of decision, but:
Today is still the day of salvation. Seek Him, while He may yet be found.
And to those of you who think me to be guilty of the title in recent posts, I want you to think about your belief. For your teachers have taught for almost 200 years now that Jesus could come at any moment. That His coming then was imminent. If you are wise you should know that that was just not possible then, and that as a message it has harmed many of its hearers in the past.
Just Two of God’s days would translate for Jesus in His time on earth as “soon”. It’s all about perspective and whose perspective you wish to believe. Our faith as believers is in and comes from believing God’s word. He asks that we study it in order that we be approved workman, who need not be ashamed. If what I share doesn’t ring true with you as being God’s truth; then at least let it spark your further study, and above all believe what He speaks through it to you.
Revelation 22:12 “I’m coming soon! I will bring my reward with me to pay all people based on what they have done. (GOD’S WORD)
