Matthew 24:14 “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come. (NASB1995)
In the time before Jesus spoke these words in answer to the questioning from His disciples He had laid out His rendering of this gospel which will eventually bring in the kingdom (His Kingdom).
In Matthew’s relating of these events of those days, he had told of Jesus many encounters with the scribes and Pharisees who represented religion in those very days. So it was in Jesus most recent encounter with these religious men that He had without stating it in so many words laid out the purpose for His coming. To these religious men who were to be the representatives of God on earth He said:
Matthew 23:26 “You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that the outside of it may become clean also. (NASB1995)
Matthew 23:28 “So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. (NASB1995)
And then He placed the question before them that each of us who have ever been confronted by Him must answer:
Matthew 23:33 “You serpents, you brood of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell? (NASB1995)
These were words meant to shock the hearers into the reality (into the truth of their situation). For they, as we, are without the ability to cleanse the inside, and therefore we are nothing without God’s savior (His Christ) who would lay down His life for the cleansing of the inside of man.
Jesus had told these religious leaders as we are told through another of these Apostles this:
John 10:16 “I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock [with] one shepherd. 17 “For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. (NASB1995)
Jesus, was here as He was always teaching men this good news about a time when Jews and Gentiles would be one with Him in His kingdom. These men questioned Him and He answered them:
John 10:36 do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? (NASB1995)
This is the gospel; that we hypocrites, who are full of dead men’s bones can be cleansed by: it is this one man Jesus, who laid down His life for us if we only would believe.
It is this gospel that is still being preached. And it is this gospel that will be preached to the whole world: And then the end will come.
An update on its progress: Wycliffe is on target to have the gospel in every known language by the end of this coming year 2025. If you are still with me, you may want to read this related article:
