This message from Spurgeon, was for one man (the thief on the cross next to Jesus), who while in the throes of death, turned to The only One who could deliver him from a hellish death, wherein he faced even his souls destruction.

Today, I believe our country to be in just such a state as he was.

The death knells are being sounded for a country that once stood for God, and honored God within even its leadership. And even though sin did abound across its land in many ways; still there was a church in every community wherein the leaders of those communities and of our land itself took refuge from this worlds struggles to honor Him, who provided them wisdom to coupe with life’s toils, and the promise of eternal life one day with Him.

There was life and meaning to life. There was an overarching purpose or motivation to this life. There were moral standards, which were good for society. Laws were based on that sought after moral life. Most men only abandoned their character in the secret of the night not wanting to be caught in their known sin. There was still a conscience, and there was repentance.

Today these same sinful types of men have “come out” not in repentance, but with their sin fully exposed, and over time they have convinced a society that there is no immorality. And here, and now, if there is a God; He has made them to be the person that they are: and they are proud to be morally bankrupt. They believe themselves to be fully accepted by him (their god), and thus you must also, not only accept their immortality, but you must also teach your children that it is not just him that is loved by this God of theirs, but that it is his “moral” or immoral position in life that he must also accept and love. For their lifestyle is approved by this their God. In fact it is perfectly acceptable to this GGgod, that you should become as they are. Should you not see this god as they see him; then it is you, who are the scourge on our society.

There was another man in such a place as we. He is recorded in Scripture. He had come to the time when his own life and that of his family and their eternal life hung in the balance. He had chosen to make his stay in this very place where sin abounded. He was unable to know within himself that this was a dangerous place, for him, and for his family to make a permanent abode. He was living in Sodom.

We do not know if Lot had prayed for his society over his time there? We do not know if he had confronted its sin or if he had just come to accept what he knew to be wrong before His God?

We do know that he sat in its gate with its leadership. And we do know that his sudden removal by God from its danger was not planned by him, nor was it without a personal cost to him and to his children. His wife was lost, for she had come to love this place, and could not leave without one final fatal longing look.

The main difference in us and Lot is seen in the fact that Sodom’s lifestyle of open sin was not spread throughout his entire world as it is now in various forms today. Nor was there an Israel (an Abrahamic promise yet given). There had not been given the promised New Covenant; nor had Israel found itself surrounded and all but alone before Lot’s time as it is prophesied to be before another time possibly such as our own.

So my questions are these: to just what place will God finally take you when He determines it to be the time of your nations or maybe your worlds destruction? And when this time comes will your family be complete or will there be members missing even as there were for Lot?

Spurgeon’s. Message:

A Great Saviour of Great Sinners

Lord, remember me when Thou comest into Thy kingdom. – Luke 23:42 Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him… …
