Yesterday, our pastor spoke on Jesus name. It was a wonderful message. Following the message I shared with Pastor Jeter a testimony of what I had experienced in my early Christian walk with this Savior God’s Son named Jesus, the name that to all believers has become the name above all names.
I was fairly new in my born again experience, and I was reading everything that I could get my hands on. I had been sent a book by Mel Tari. Like a Mighty Wind.
The evening before what I’m about to share with you, I had read one testimony from his book where a missionary had entered a river to cross to the other side. After proceeding some distance across, he noticed men on the opposite bank begin to point and excitedly motion toward what were several crocodiles maneuvering toward him. When he realized what was happening he pointed his finger in the direction of each and stated: “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.”, and then he continued to cross over to the men watching. The crocks each turned harmlessly away. The result I don’t fully recall, but it had it’s impact on these men.
I was on the road the next morning. I was on my job, which involved inspecting cars for a major Insurance carrier. I was in route to a Salvage yard in Brandywine Md. I pulled over to the side of the road and prayed, asking the Lord to be as real in my life as He was in the testimonies I was reading. I remember weeping and praying. I ended my prayer and continued to my destination.
When I arrived I entered the business office, and asked to see the two vehicles that I was there to see. I was told that one was down the first row on the left and the other was out front by one of the entrance gates, “but watch the Dog. He is chained, but bad. Don’t get too close to him”.
I looked at the car in the yard first; then headed to the other on the outside. I was making notes on my clipboard as I approached the gate where the second car was situated. As I did I heard the guttural growl, and looked up to see a dog with bared teeth and foam dripping from its mouth as it charged, and right away I knew that that that chain was not going to hold, and it didn’t. As he raced at me he lunged for my throat. I caught him under his front legs in mid air with my clip board and he flipped over and once again faced me with teeth bared. At that instant I heard the Word of the Lord say “rebuke him in the name of Jesus”. I dropped the clipboard that I had been holding in both hands to my left side and pointed my right finger at him, and said: “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus”. He stopped as if he saw a Ghost; turned; tucked his tail and took off down through the salvage yard yelping. I stood there with my hands raised in praise to Jesus, thanking Him for loving me enough to be there with me. As I did, I remembered there were two men to my left. I glanced and they were looking at me with gapping mouths. I said to them: “there is power in the name of Jesus”, and I went back to doing my job on the second car, thanking God for this sign.
I have given this testimony many times, each time it has the same impact on me and on the listeners. God is real. He wants to do great things through us. Seek and you shall find. Knock and it shall be opened unto you. God loves us, and just wants to be God in our lives.
