Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is tested [and] refined [like silver]; He is a shield to those who trust [and] take refuge in Him. 6 Do not add to His words, Or He will reprove you, and you will be found a liar. (AMP)
Originally Woke was slang in the black community for the community to awaken to the facts that there are social injustices, and that there is racism in our society. Today’s usage has expanded to US society in general, and it seems to include not just racial injustice but female and Gender bias. In fact there seems to be a redefining of what is sin and what is not sin in our society.
If one does not share the same awareness as the society; then you are not woke, or basically you are not awake, and you are part of the societal problem. You are in their eyes no longer free to think for yourself.
To be woke more and more today means that we are to see our fellow man in the way that we interpret God to wish us to see him. I have written before about our being in disarray and disunity as a church. The liberal church says: that to not view all humankind as God’s children is to be of your father the devil. The conservative believing community says: that to believe this way is to abandon this realization given us by our Lord, that He and we do have enemies, (we are not all His children); and that the truth is that in order to be His children these enemies need to be changed by Him, if they are to have eternal life with God. In other words we are not all God’s children from birth as the woke would have us accept it. We are not His until He says we are. To be awakened to His truth is much different than being awakened to society’s truth.
1 Timothy 1:8 But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9 realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous (this can sound so pious to the liberal) person but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and worldly, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10 for the sexually immoral, homosexuals, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, (NASB2020)
The truth, which I believe the liberal to miss, is that we cannot be the righteous in this verse without Christ in us, but the liberal view is that all men are innately good.
So to be woke today is to be accepting of sinners not in order to help them find deliverance, but in order that they be included in your brotherhood without conversion.
1 Timothy 4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, (NASB2020)
Many churches and believers are buying into this liberal understanding. Just love them and all will be well. If you love you are godly even though some of you are enemies of God.
Titus 1:11 who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they should not [teach] for the sake of dishonest gain. 12 One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” 13 This testimony is true. For this reason reprimand them severely so that they may be sound in the faith, (NASB2020)
There must be an acknowledgment of who we are in Christ and who those without Christ are. We are not all brothers, and sons of God, but some of us have and are becoming God’s sons.
1 John 2:4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; (NASB2020)
Love is a great way to behave toward others, but when those others attempt to force their “truth” rather than God’s truth upon you beware, for if you love Jesus you must stand for the truth. Not even God had forced Himself upon you. He created you free to choose.
1 John 2:22 Who is the liar except the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also. (NASB2020)
Our brothers are in and of the family of God. If we through “wokeness” accept all mankind as our brothers, we deny God’s truth as recorded in His word, and essentially we deny Christ, who is the word made flesh. As conservatives we accept the right of all men to be free to choose what and whom to believe. We make God’s ways known to all men, but we do not choose for them. Liberals tend toward loving all sinful men where they are, except for the conservative. They see conservatism as the greatest sin. They identify it with self-righteousness, which is a grave sin; for there is no righteousness apart from a life changed by God.
1 John 4:20 If someone says, “I love God,” and [yet] he hates his brother [or sister,] he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother [and sister] whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. (NASB2020)
We have an obligation to one another because we love one another. We are to, as the Holy Spirit leads us, present the truth to one another in love. This can be difficult because the truth itself is not always loved, even by the brethren, but if we love them we can’t back off until they either receive or reject God’s truth.
Revelation 2:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: (KJV)
If we love the brethren, as well as the lost, we are to rebut those who are enemies of truth. We in fact are their judge, we have tried them as Jesus states here; and we have determined them to be liars; because they reject truth, and thus proclaim themselves to be false. Discernment is based upon the truth of scripture, not upon our perception of “truth”.
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (KJV)
For this reason brothers, be careful as to what you are awakened. Seeking God’s truth is the responsibility of God’s children. Teaching that truth reflects a special love for those brethren. Presenting the gospel to the lost is similar, but it must reflect the truth concerning what is sin, and what unforgiven sin will lead to at the judgment. The presentation of the gospel (the good news) reflects the love of the brethren (you and me) for even the enemies of Christ. If in that presentation to your enemy, you fail to tell them that to accept Christ’s sacrifice for their sin, means that they must trust Him and turn away from the sins that they love and those that they hate, and turn to Him for forgiveness and power to walk away from those sins as He reveals them and empowers you to do. Without these elements in the gospel how will one find freedom and brotherhood in Christ?
What group do you identify with, we are not all the same. Only in Christ are we brothers, with the responsibility to love one another. To love is to want the very best for one another. Is God’s best what you believe it to be, or what God’s word tells you that it is for you?
