Acts 24:14 “But this I admit to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect (or heresy) I do serve the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets; (NASB)

Paul is making a statement here. He has adopted the message of Jesus the Nazarene, who is the Way, the Messiah, but by so doing he has not left his God and the scriptures of his fathers, nor the laws of his nation.

Paul following his conversion had been involved in ministry for many years as is evident from his reputation:

Acts 24:5 “For we have found this man (Paul) a real pest and a fellow who stirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. (NASB)

Here his accuser brought him before Caesarea’s Governor Felix, and eventually he was sent on to Rome for trial. He was accused of being in a sect. In fact he admitted to being involved in this sect which he identified as the Way, and which his accuser identifies as the Nazarenes. He was as such disrupting the Jews — why?

Paul’s teaching was presented in the synagogue as he journeyed throughout the Roman world. He had joined this sect which he had at it’s origins persecuted. This sect he still identifies, after all these years, as “the Way”. This title reflects Jesus and His own teaching concerning Himself as being the way. The one who was long ago promised.

Paul made it a habit to take the truth of the word to those around him. Religious people need the truth, even when they claim that they know the truth, but don’t. Their minds are so closed that Jesus had to tell them: “you have ears to hear, but you do not hear. The mind of Christ was open to everything that the Father said through Jesus. We are taking on His mind. A mind that is open to His truth will hear. Paul once had resisted His Truth before he heard it from Christ Himself. He had been one of those religionists, who now spoke against him. Father please always get my attention when I am being stubborn and not hearing, and always let your truth flow through me even when men will not hear, for they as do I need Your truth.

Unfortunately today, when the word of God is so prevalent among us, to believe it and speak it as Paul was doing can stir up the religious among us, who do not want to hear.

Our Lord is the truth, we are truth seekers. What does that mean for the life of our nation which is headed in the way of Sodom? Have a look at SODOM and Gomorrah? Did our Father make a statement by what He did concerning the morality of that society? If we turn from our wicked ways God says that He will heal our land. Tell me are we asking God to heal us and our land, when half of us — we His people — are voting for immorality. Or when many of us will just not vote at all. The plague of evil in our land is condoned by leaders of this nation and we the voters allow them to continue in this vein. God help us. Today we have run out of land to flee to from our Sodom.

They that called Paul a heretic, were themselves heretics. The politicians who today call Trump a liar and a racist, are liars and racists themselves. God’s people and their crying out to Him are the only hope that God will heal this land. Voting for evil is the antithesis to that cry.
