In this post our focus is on why is Tribulation a part of the plan of God?
Matthew 24:21 For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will be.
What then is the purpose of this Great Tribulation?
Paul tells us in Ephesians 5, that Christ wants to have a church cleansed by the washing of the word:
That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. Ephesians 5:27 KJV
If the washing of the word is to cleanse His bride, removing her spots and wrinkles — is not her present confusion over that word one of her greatest wrinkles? So, Then something must occur to cause His bride to make herself ready by the removal of such wrinkles of confusion, because confusion is what currently divides His people. His Holy Spirit is to teach the truth of His word, and yet today their are many conflicting truths taught by His bride.
So how do we learn. Some say we learn best by study, others say best by having a good teacher, others say by experience. Truth is it’s all three. But with each one of these it is the word that trumps everything.
Today we know that Tribulation is coming. In some areas it is already present. Some in the church say that this cleansing word means Rapture has always been imminent, because scripture teaches imminence. Others tell us that this cleansing word tells us that we are already in the kingdom age, that Christ is already ruling, and there is no future earthly kingdom for we are now in it. Others including myself believe that the word with study defines its own words. It is written for all to study, it is without contradiction when fully understood, it is infallible, and therefore is clearly opposed to either of the above beliefs. Some of us are right, some are wrong.
Some say salvation is all from God (with no free will), some say it is man’s free will response to God’s gift of faith. Both say that it is through Christ His perfect and completed work offered to man. Some say it is of works.
We are not a spotless bride. Peter saw this problem even in his day. For even then we in the church were not spotless:
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 1 Peter 4:17 KJV
Jesus prayed for a unity in the body that today is not present and it is a spot and a wrinkle on His bride. A bride told by Him that she will make herself ready (Rev.19). A bride told that because of her unity the world will know that the Father has loved both Him and us. Unfortunately just because the world will one day know these things, still as we understand Revelations message, rebellious man does not repent.
Matthew 24:29 “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
Immediately after this Tribulation, which occurs in these days surrounding the Great Tribulation, will these signs occur that tell us of His imminent coming. By this time His bride has made herself ready.
John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
Tribulation comes to us who name the name of Jesus, and who are born of His Spirit. And it comes from the world. But you are not of the world, you are in Christ where it is possible to have peace even in the midst of Tribulation.
Acts 14:22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, “Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.”
“Enter The kingdom of God”? — future; through tribulation? — but Many say that we are now in the kingdom Father, in Christ. So why does your word call for Tribulation leading to our entry into this kingdom? And to “Continue in the faith”? — but many say that this keeping us in You is Your responsibility Father not ours? “Through many tribulations you must enter the kingdom”.
A twisted belief is prevalent because of stopped up and itching ears prevalent in many of today’s believers, who think that there is no truth except their own. Tribulation does it help the church to make herself ready?
Romans 2:9 There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, — is there evil doing yet in the church?
So Peter says judgment is to begin with us. Is it not a type of evil in us to disbelieve the word? —for bible teachers to disbelieve and twist God’s word leads to destruction. We need cleansing.
Romans 5:3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance;
Perseverance? Why persevere? — we are rich and in need of nothing. We are born again. We are chosen. Too many believers today may have a mindset that nothing is required of me as I journey on this way — the way that is straight and narrow. Are there some simply along for the ride. Have we considered the battle before us? Jesus says: no king enters into battle without first considering the cost.
Romans 8:35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Is this our mindset, or do we stumble or fall when things don’t go our way. Are we weak and in need of lurching from Him?
Romans 12:12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer,
This is the way of the believer who is a bond servant of our Lord.
Ephesians 3:13 Therefore I ask you not to lose heart at my tribulations on your behalf, for they are your glory.
Do we see Godly men suffer and question God?
1 Thessalonians 1:6 You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit,
The word has not been received in our generation in midst of much Tribulation. It has not been tested through much Persecution, but it appears that the day is coming soon that this will no longer be so. We seem to be near to the time of the culmination of this age. And then there will be great Tribulation.
Revelation 1:9. I, John, your brother and fellow partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance which are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.
Tribulation will come because of the word of God. A twisted word will not do.
Revelation 2:9 ‘I know your tribulation and your poverty but you are rich, and the blasphemy by those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.
Do you understand who the true Jew is? Are we going to recognize how rich we are in the midst of Tribulation?
Revelation 2:10 Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Faithful unto death Lord? Me? This can’t be for me? remember the rapture? “Through many Tribulations you will enter the kingdom.”
Revelation 2:22 Behold, I will throw her on a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her deeds.
Worldly deeds must be put away by a bride presenting herself without spot or wrinkle.
Revelation 7:9, 13-14 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “These who are clothed in the white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?” I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
“They have washed their robes”?Jesus who is the very word of God made flesh never really told us — not even one time — that we would escape Tribulation. Our prayer to escape these things in a sense has already been answered. Our generation in this country has escaped much of what saints who have gone before us have not. We have lived in perhaps the greatest most blessed country of all time. But to him to whom much is given much is required. His promise to us, who keep the faith, is that we will escape His wrath. But most today do not even know what that means. Tribulation dear saint is nowhere taught to be His Wrath.
