In a couple of our last posts we had viewed Revelation 22:18 & 19 and considered the happenings in the two verses which are used to support a pre-Trib Rapture in light of what 22:18-19 tells us. So I’m not going to repeat those verses.

Today I am going to analyze The Wrath contained in the Revelation using Revelation 22’s warning to us.

To summarize Rev 3:10, we are told that all who have ears to hear will be kept from the hour that is coming to test the whole earth. So we must interpret this and every passage using nothing but related scripture, either from Revelation itself, or absent an explanation in Revelation; then we can apply other Scriptural concepts relative to our subject. This seems to be the way that God wants us to study Revelation, and it should be the way we study all scripture, I believe. Scripture interprets scripture.

So we have in a prior post defining how this hour presents itself from scripture, and we determined it to be God’s Orge Wrath, based on Paul’s messages that we will escape Orge wrath. Today we will look deeper at every outpouring of wrath recorded in the Revelation in the same way.

In doing this there are obvious divisions of wrath poured out in Revelations message to us. The First is God’s Wrath, which is His alone. His focus seems to be Judgment without destruction, with the intent toward repentance; but God’s final wrath is for destruction with no more chance for repentance and this judgment seems to be turned over to the Lamb. Secondly we have Satanic Wrath which obviously has thus far been somehow restrained by God. And Thirdly we have Jesus’ Coming with Wrath, which is certainly a part of God’s final purpose for wrath which again is destruction in Hell. We begin examining wrath associated with God’s purposes.

Revelation 14:18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

Revelation 14:19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the (Thumos) wrath of God. (KJV)

We shall see later that the Thumos Wrath Of God is finished once the bowls of Thumos Wrath are poured out, at some point Thumos seems to be mixed with Orge near the end of Tribulation as Jesus shows His presence and completes His coming.

Revelation 15:1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the (Thumos) wrath of God. (KJV)

Revelation 15:7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the (Thumos) wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever. (KJV)

Revelation 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the (Thumos) wrath of God upon the earth. (KJV)

Revelation 16:2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

The fact that the Mark is already fully in effect on earth is revealing as to the timing of this the first of the bowl Judgments. Remember these bowls represent all of God’s Thumos. It appears that His wrath is only described late in the Tribulation. Because of the teaching of Tribulations being associated with wrath we tend to think otherwise.

Revelation 16:3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man; and every living soul died in the sea.

Revelation 16:4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood. (KJV)

These verses help us further identify the timing here. This is late in the Tribulation timeframe, because life will not last without water. And each of the bowls are still Thumos as identified in 15:7.

Revelation 16:5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

Revelation 16:6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy. (KJV)

We are now down to mere days left on earth, for no water to drink means death. There is another consideration that must be offered here. Does this shedding of the blood of saints and prophets in vs 16 above mean that the impact of the bowls of wrath poured out on the earth are actually reaching all the way into Hell itself? I ask this because God’s Thumos is over with this outpouring.

Revelation 16:8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

Revelation 16:9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. (KJV)

These plagues are God’s alone. My question — is this Due to the wording here is repentance still being offered? Are these bowls so far creating His final call seeking repentance before destruction is sent, for repentance still seems to be in the purpose of God?

Revelation 16:10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, (KJV)

Again does this kingdom include Hell itself?

Revelation 16:11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

Again Is God offering or willing to offer these repentance? If the plagues are sent as an offer of repentance; then here is an offer even to the beast and his followers, or its followers. Which would be the greatest Revelation of God’s grace offered through Christ.

Revelation 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

Thumos Wrath at this time is done, however we will again see it mixed with Orge as the Lamb enters our study. And as we consider these verses we seem to get the revelation that these verses have an order that is not sequential.

Revelation 16:18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

Revelation 16:19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his Orge wrath. (KJV)

Orge Wrath is now on stage. This is the first that we have seen it so far. It seems that the seventh angel with his bowl brings about the treading of the wine press. Is this then the time of Jesus’ return? Wrath here in verse 19 is called fierceness (Thumos) of His Wrath (Orge).

Before we look at the coming of Christ to tread the wine press, we need to digress back into the workings of Satan during the Tribulation. Then we will look at Christ’s involvement in tribulations Wrath.

The following verses are related to the unleashing of Satan’s wrath which is poured out mainly upon God’s people.

Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great (Thumos) wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. (KJV)

Revelation 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the (Thumos) wrath of her fornication. (KJV)

This is Satan’s involvement with man which results in the bring down of Thumos Wrath in the bowls upon them.

Revelation 16:12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. (KJV)

Revelation 16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

Revelation 16:14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty (KJV).

This is the 6th bowl of Thumos Wrath. And here restraint is again unleashed on Satan to begin calling forth his army for battle.

Revelation 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. (KJV)

Revelation 18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the (Thumos) wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. (KJV)

This call to “come out of her, my people” strongly indicates that the Rapture has not yet occurred, but the hour of Orge Wrath is fast approaching.

The purpose of this study is to focus on the way and the time in which Wrath is to be poured out during the Tribulation. There are many more passages dealing with the judgments rendered by God, and the effects of wrath which Satan and his Antichrist will dish out upon those who overcome him by Jesus blood and their testimony. But we need to understand wrath itself, and it’s uses, because it is God’s Orge Wrath that we are promised to escape. Satan’s wrath and the Thumos wrath from God comes before Orge in Revelation, and if still alive we should expect to see almost all of it from earth itself. I was as a young Believer in my 20’s raised on pre-Trib teaching. My draw into scripture at that time sent me on a quest to prove it. What you see on this blog is a result of that quest.

Now we need to review Orge Wrath that is associated with Jesus trampling of the winepress at His Coming on His Great Day, because all believers will definitely will see it from the sky following resurrection and rapture. As stated in the teaching on Wrath’s overview earlier last month there is Thumos mixed with Orge in Jesus outpouring of wrath. There was no Orge however in the first two sections until the seventh angel poured out his vial of God’s wrath. It was then that Thumos began to be mixed with Orge. So, It is reasonable to conclude that at this time associated with Jesus Coming we will see resurrection and rapture. It is not until the very end of the bowls that the Earth will see Orge. And Orge is what we are promised to escape.

Revelation 6:16 is our first sighting of Orge in the Revelation. 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the (Orge) wrath of the Lamb:

Revelation 6:17 For the great day of his (Orge) wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? (KJV)

The great day has come. Where have we seen something like that described before in these verses? Listen:

Revelation 16:14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty (KJV).

This Rev 6:17 message takes place at the end of the seals which the Lamb has opened. Here are the questions that you must ask yourself. How do these, who are obviously not Jesus followers, yet, at this point in time they do know “the face” or translated in other versions of Scripture as “presence” of God and the lamb? If this is not the end of Tribulation as Rev 16:14 seems to make clear; then there would need to be strong indication refuting what seems evident here? Why do they seek for the rocks and mountains to fall on them, if this presence is not occurring at the very time of the Lord’s coming to earth when all eyes will see Him come to execute their destruction, which is implied in Orge Wrath (Judgment) used in this verse?

Revelation 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy (Orge) wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth. (KJV)

Again we see evidence of final judgment and destruction on earths destroyers, the small and the great. This is at the time of the blowing of the 7th Trumpet, and again it is Orge Wrath.

Revelation 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, (KJV)

Revelation 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the (Thumos) wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his (Orge) indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: (KJV)

Here we have warning for men who still seem to have a choice not to follow the beast, but if they do there is warning to them of a future Thumos Wrath in the bowls and we have seen that the presence of the Lamb will add to Thumos, Orge. Thumos is mixed with Orge Wrath, at Christ’s return in Rev 19.

Revelation 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

Revelation 16:16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. (KJV)

Revelation 16:19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his (Orge) wrath. (KJV)

Again we have Orge Wrath, at the time of the fall of the nations, including Babylon. And with this His coming here is announced as a thief. The same announcement made by Paul in 1Thess. 5:2., but here it is made clear that this coming is at the Battle of Armageddon which is slated to know God’s Orge Wrath.

Revelation 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the (Thumos) fierceness and (orge) wrath of Almighty God. (KJV)

Fierceness is Thumos, Orge is Wrath in this verse.

The final question that you must ask, is does the Greek language used in Jesus day better help one to understand our promise to be kept from an hour, which is nowhere in scripture stated to be the Great Tribulation? But that certainly seems to be the hour of Orge wrath.
