I recently had a discussion on Jesuswithoutbaggage a WordPress site with a gentleman who posts as “Chas” about the trinity. His point was that Jesus could not be God, because God cannot die. And why if he was God did the Father have to resurrect Him?  Why didn’t He resurrect Himself?  Of course, he made other points. This site (jesuswithoutbaggage) does not support the inerrancy of scripture.    Therefore it attracts like minded individuals. Why do I go there? — to plant seed.

My response to him:

Interesting Chas because that’s not what one would get from Jesus words here: (in scripture).

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say  John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

Matthew 16:13-14,16-18  NASB

Also these words from Jesus seem to give Him an ability that no mere man possesses.

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

John 14:23-24

The ability to make ones abode with millions of believers all at once has to be a God thing — doesn’t it?

And He said to them, “O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?” Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.

Luke 24:25-27 NASB

And Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. 45 He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me. 46 I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness. 47 If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day. 49 For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. 50 I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”

John 12:44-50 NASB

Obviously there are many more scriptures than this that can be pointed to.

Both man and God in the flesh is a doctrine of the church which seems more than adequately supported by scripture when referencing Jesus. Admittedly there are doctrines of the church which are not adequately supported by scripture, such as: Israel being replaced by the church; or to the opposite extreme — the two being completely separate entities. I write extensively on my blog about these issues and the need to listen to the scriptures when formulating doctrine. After all Doctrine is supposed to be truth. If one cannot support truth with scripture on these issues how can he expect to be believed about the extent of God’s love and grace offered up for mankind.

Needless to say Chas, who does not believe in the inerrancy of Scripture, does not believe Jesus words either if they don’t fit his made up god. An idol (a man made god) does not necessarily sit on a mantel, or alter somewhere.  An idol can reside in mind and heart of a man or woman.  As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.

Now you may ask again — why do you go there?  Well, long story short. — people who read my blog are not lost. We are to go to the lost. Most of the people who go there are lost without Jesus, and they don’t know it. I do know that they are only finding misleading statements there. So anyone who goes there seeking may read what I post and seek further? That would be my hope and purpose.
