The fruit of the Spirit is given to those who walk not in the flesh but in the Spirit. Speaking about this concept one author stated:
“If we are winning the battle, the world just may see a battle being won. One that promises the very fruit the world chases.”
So my question to you is this — does the World really desire and chase after These fruits that we have access to as Believers when we walk in the Spirit? The author’s point was that we don’t really have them as we should, but that if we did they might take notice because they the world really do want them. A secondary question is possibly even more important: — Why does the church not have and exhibit them (which is this Authors point) if even the world is desirous of them as this author states?
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
So does the World, and does the Church really seek after these things? This is the dilemma that we have when contemplating good vs evil. One extreme states that there is good in every man. Jesus says that there is good in no man. “there is none good but God”. Jesus is the opposite extreme from this liberal view. No man is good — “all man’s righteousness is as filthy rags”. Without God pointing out man’s sinfulness he cannot be what God desires — His desire is that man be contrite and broken in order to receive what He has for us.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.
In this Psalm David has recognized his sinfulness and is expressing his needy condition and his desire to be made righteous before his God. So David had this desire that this author says the World chases. This attitude he says God will not despise. But before writing this Psalm, David was hiding his own sin even from himself until the prophet came to him and said “Thou art the man”. You all know the situation with Uriah and Bathsheba.
The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, and saveth such as are of a contrite spirit.
In this Psalm we see what God desires in order to save. Yet David also states in psalm 51 that if he is cleansed of his sinfulness that then he can teach sinners God’s ways. He in a sense acknowledges here man’s need of a preacher in order to find God’s desires for man’s condition which will lead to salvation. This condition is a broken spirit and a contrite heart. But it didn’t happen without Nathan the prophet going to David and making him confront his sin.
So is the world actually seeking the very things that God only gives freely to them that seek Him. The gifts of the Spirit are only given and found in those who walk in the Spirit. Those in the world walk after the lusts of the flesh, even some of us believers do that from time to time as did David, and no matter if it is us or the world it is always in selfishness that we do these things. But with the World even their good deeds are done out of a selfish motivation. Often it is to please God so that they can escape hell. Only recognizing that we are sinners in the presence of a Holy God, who has loved us so much that He would come into a world that hates Him to purposefully suffer and die for our sin, will we then become broken and contrite in heart and in Spirit. And without a Spirit lead preacher, a teacher, or a good book or writer this cannot happen, because faith only comes by the word of God.
But without faith it is impossible to please Him. For he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
How many in the world I wonder are out there who would believe and seek after God if only they could hear? And I also wonder how harsh a punishment there might be for those who have heard over and over and over and yet still they reject what they hear. They do not seek Him who is a rewarder of them who diligently seek Him. John said of Jesus — “He came unto His own and His own received Him not.” When we as believers reject the fruit of the Spirit it is because we refuse to follow the Holy Spirits leading in our lives. Is that the same as receiving Him not?
This is a nation that will have no voice when they open their mouth in protest to their final reward (or) punishment.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you. Hopefully we will all have a Christ filled, Spirit Lead new year.
