9. DISPENSATIONS: ISRAEL- seen in all ages from Abraham; CHURCH- seen only in this present age.
Hebrews 12:28-29 Hebrews 11:24-29, 37-40 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing Him who is unseen. Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; By faith he (Moses) kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that he who destroyed the firstborn would not touch them. for our God is a consuming fire. By faith they passed through the Red Sea as though they were passing through dry land; and the Egyptians, when they attempted it, were drowned….They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated men of whom the world was not worthy, wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground. And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect.
MY COMMENT: it is my contention that God’s plan for His remnant spans the ages. The writer of Hebrews begins this section by seeing Abraham then Moses with faith in Christ, and he ends this by seeing that without us he and they the remnant are incomplete.
The Ekklessia from which we get our concept of Christ’s Church, gets its meaning from its many uses in the Old Testament– where it is used for Israel as a gathering of called out ones.
Interestingly none other than Jesus Himself placed what Pre-Trib Dispensationalists believe and teach as the Dispensation of Law under “this present age”, not under a different age.
Matthew 12:32 Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.
Jesus spoke these words before His Crucifixion and before the Pre-Trib understanding of the timing of the establishment of the so called Church age, yet the understanding of age here by Jesus is that of a present age and an age to come.
Matthew 24:3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
HERE is a perfect opportunity for our Lord to clairify the ages issue, if in fact there are ages before He comes as Pre-Trib teachers suggest. He does not dispute that His coming will end that age which is current with the Disciples, nor does He answer this as though it were two different questions as is often suggested by Pre-Trib scholars. In fact by not doing so He confirms what He teaches in every other scripture concerning this age, and the age to come.
Luke 18:30 who will not receive many times as much at this time and in the age to come, eternal life.”
Daniel 7:18 But the saints of the Highest One will receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, for all ages to come.’
The coming ages will follow not precede His coming as King to His kingdom, which is presented to be the age to come obviously followed by many ages, but preceded by none.
10. MINISTRY– ISRAEL- no Missionary activity, and no gospel to preach; CHURCH- a commission to fulfill.
One could argue that there was no gospel for the Jews or Gentiles before their was a Savior, once there was a Savior, the Remnant of Israel was commissioned to preach the gospel. The early church was Jewish, they were called in Acts “the Way”. The gospel message was about the Messiah of Israel come to save the world.
Jesus mission in His own words was to unite Jew and Gentile.
John 10:16 John 11:49-52 I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd.
But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, nor do you take into account that it is expedient for you that one man die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.” Now he did not say this on his own initiative, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.
–The fact that God has but one people chosen out of the Nations beginning with pre- Abrahamic Gentiles, Abraham himself being a gentile is a prevalent understanding. throughout scripture, and can be seen in – one body; one kingdom; one Royal priesthood; one Holy Nation; one Bride; one new man; one Eklesia- Church; one olive tree; His Saints. And best of all in the fact that we are all men of faith in Him, the one God of Israel.
The gospel is to go to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
11. THE DEATH OF CHRIST. ISRAEL- guilty nationally, to be saved by it; CHURCH- perfectly saved by it now.
22. MARRIAGE– ISRAEL- unfaithful wife; CHURCH– bride
Yes Israel is guilty before God for the crucifixion, but are we not? To say that we are not as responsible as are they would be very haughty. The nation Israel will be saved in a future time after being made jealous by us. This is fact. We are being saved- this is fact, salvation includes us in the Body of Christ, the Bride of Christ. Why is it that some believe that israel will not also have that same status when scripture is clear on this point?
It is obvious from Isa 54 that Israel is having children more numerous today while they are barren and divorced, than they had produced when married. As a result when israel is reunited with their Redeemer; their maker; their husband, they will have to enlarge their tents, their borders to accommodate us who are their offspring.
Isaiah 54:1-8 “Shout for joy, O barren one, you who have borne no child;Break forth into joyful shouting and cry aloud, you who have not travailed;For the sons of the desolate one will be more numerousThan the sons of the married woman,” says the Lord. “Enlarge the place of your tent;Stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not;Lengthen your cords And strengthen your pegs. “For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left. And your descendants will possess nations And will resettle the desolate cities. “Fear not, for you will not be put to shame; And do not feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced; But you will forget the shame of your youth, And the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more. “For your husband is your Maker, Whose name is the Lord of hosts; And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel, Who is called the God of all the earth. “For the Lord has called you, Like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, Even like a wife of one’s youth when she is rejected,” Says your God. “For a brief moment I forsook you, But with great compassion I will gather you. “In an outburst of anger I hid My face from you for a moment, But with everlasting lovingkindness I will have compassion on you,” Says the Lord your Redeemer.
God sent His son into the world to redeem Israel, but not The nation only as we have seen Jesus say in John 10:16 I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd.
His act of redemption (His death) made her a widow, she therefore has been barren ever since, she has produced not one spiritual child since the renting of the curtain at the time of the crucifixion. Any salvation granted to her remnant has come through the recognition of Christ Jesus her messiah. Every Jewish salvation since the crucifixion adds another member to the Bride of Christ not to the present physical nation Israel, but to the faithful remnant. In fact every one is a completed Jew, and we ourselves who have been saved as Gentiles are adopted Jews
