I want to followup on yesterday’s article. The disunity in the church today is at what some might call critical mass. The Paulinism (the teaching that only Paul’s epistles are written for today’s church doctrine), message I believe has taken things so far that it has become fodder for the backlash that it has spawned. But that is exactly what happens when a bit of leaven enters dough. The entire ball of dough is effected. Today the entire body of Christ is under attack even by outsiders because of our lack of unity in teaching.
So what reaction was spawned by the Paulinism teaching? Movement’s like Jesuswordonly.org have over reacted to this message going so far as to call Paul a false Apostle.
So what is the truth. I began to separate truth from fiction with yesterday’s piece. Today I will continue to show you that Paul is neither a false Apostle, nor is he the only source of Scriptural truth for church doctrine.
Paul does not separate himself from other Apostles, only false Apostles.
1 Corinthians 4:1 Let a man regard us in this manner, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
If you read what has gone before in this passage he is definitely referring to other Apostles Cephas among them when he uses “us” here.
He continues 1 Corinthians 4:9 For, I think, God has exhibited us apostles last of all, as men condemned to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.
Here the evidence is clear. Every Apostle was either martyred, or otherwise persecuted as was Paul.
Paul continued the kingdom gospel message and it was confirmed by the working of miracles. 1 Corinthians 4:20 For the kingdom of God does not consist in words but in power.
He continued along with the others to exercise the binding and losing of the power given to the disciples. 1 Corinthians 5:5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
In addition to what I shared with you yesterday it is obvious that he is highly instrumental in the life of the churches that Jesus messaged through John in the Revelation.
Acts 20:17-19, 21, 24-25, 27, 36-37 From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called to him the elders of the church. And when they had come to him, he said to them, “You yourselves know, from the first day that I set foot in Asia, how I was with you the whole time, serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and with trials which came upon me through the plots of the Jews; solemnly testifying to both Jews and Greeks of repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God. “And now, behold, I know that all of you, among whom I went about preaching the kingdom (notice he was preaching the kingdom), will no longer see my face. For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God. When he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all. And they began to weep aloud and embraced Paul, and repeatedly kissed him,
Paul’s influence in Ephesus, his preaching the kingdom as part of his teachings to them is evident. Repentance being basic to his message is here stated without question. So, for the Paulinism sect within the church to claim that Jesus Revelation message has no place in the life of Paul’s churches or his gospel is bordering on heresy. But so is making Paul a false Apostle.
Listen to what Jesus said to this church — Revelation 2:2-5 ‘I know your deeds and your toil and perseverance, and that you cannot tolerate evil men, and you put to the test those who call themselves apostles, and they are not, and you found them to be false; and you have perseverance and have endured for My name’s sake, and have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent.
The Paulinism sect teaches that Paul’s message does not include repentance. And that Ephesus is a Kingdom gospel church not a Paul’s gospel of grace only church.
These men from Ephesus obviously found Paul to be a true not a false Apostle as the Jesuswordonly people believe. And Paul himself definitely affirms at the Jerusalem council and in his other writings that The original disciples were his peers. And that in fact they were the authority in approving his message. Listen: Galatians 2:2 It was because of a revelation that I went up; and I submitted to them the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but I did so in private to those who were of reputation, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain.
His fear of possibly running in vain proves his understanding that these men were Jesus appointed authority in His church.
The fact that he preached the same faith message is clear. Listen:
Galatians 1:22-23 I was still unknown by sight to the churches of Judea which were in Christ; but only, they kept hearing, “He who once persecuted us is now preaching the faith which he once tried to destroy.”
So, why was Paul chosen as the Apostle to the Gentiles? The answer to that should be obvious. Jesus had stated to the Samaritan woman “salvation is of the Jews”. Jesus has said that He would build His church on the statement made by Peter — “thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus is the Jewish Messiah. Paul was one of the foremost students of the faith that brought forth the Messiah. He understood best how Jesus fulfilled Scripture. His teachings do not contradict Jesus teachings but make them clear to the Gentile who wants to make Jesus their Messiah as well. Salvation is of the Jew. You and I are adopted and grafted into His already existing family. That is what the Olive tree teaching by Paul affirms that is overlooked by Paulinism.
Paul is the giver the explainer of that revelation that is overlooked by the Jesus word only people.
I believe scripture fully explains as I have revealed in my book that the body of Christ Jew and Gentile will be purged bringing about Jesus’ prayed for unity, and the final consummation of this age, including the salvation of the nation Israel.
