It is stated by some that Paul knew nothing of Revelations Seventh Trumpet when he wrote 1 Corinthians 15:52. That because John’s vision was not yet recorded. This it is said makes a great disconnect between the two trumpets spoken of in these passages.
This argument is used by men who do not believe that the Bible is inspired by men, but they believe in all Scripture having been inspired by God’s Holy Spirit. Why then do they have the nerve to use such an argument. Does not God’s Holy Spirit teach us that we study subjects from Scripture: here a little there a little, as well as line upon line. When Paul uses last and John uses Seventh which proves itself to be the last, there is no reason not to at least consider if they are related in the subject under consideration. So, are they in fact one and the same trumpet?
The subject matter in question is really the resurrection. Yes the Rapture is connected to it, but it only comes after the resurrection. Daniel wrote of the resurrection long before Jesus came to make way for the resurrection which is still even now for us, a future event.
So why do I and others believe that the two trumpets are one and the same?
The second woe is past; behold, the third woe is coming quickly. Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “ The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever.” And the twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying, “We give You thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who are and who were, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to reign.
Revelation 11:14-17 NASB
The Seventh trumpet of Revelation is its last. It is not only Revelations last Trumpet, but it is the last trumpet to be sounded in this age of mortal man, before the promised Messiah begins His rule over this earth. What occurs with the seventh trumpet is the beginning of that reign of Christ. His reign is believed by all premillennialists to be a millennial reign. And this description certainly allows it to qualify to be that reign. Additionally there is definitely the requirement for our resurrection to have taken place at this very time:
And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.”
Revelation 11:18 NASB
This time of Jesus coming in a resurrection event is also told us exactly linking its time to what is here stated. It is at the end of the age of mortal mankind, and it follows the Tribulation. It is now time to judge the bond-servant. So hear what Jesus said:
Mark 13:23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things. 24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, 25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. 26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven. (KJV)
This definitely sounds as if Jesus is about to take up His reign. And why wouldn’t He. He has brought about the resurrection of His people. But men can’t accept what this says, because they say that Jesus would never let His bride go through the most terrible tribulation to ever take place in this age. No: it’s impossible that Jesus would have his people suffer like that.
Somehow they forget, that the apostles almost all died for Him. The one who didn’t was boiled in oil and lived. The prophets before them died because they stood for the true Word of God. Jesus is that Word. Believers in Muslim and Communist countries are imprisoned and yes die by the thousands, many even today for their faith, and it is possible still for most Christians to think themselves too good in the eyes of their savior to suffer or die for Him.
We need to understand that in the NASB translation the Greek word translated bond-servant was used by the apostles and by John himself to describe themselves and us to whom the Revelation was written. So what makes these two trumpet events the same?
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming, then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death. 1 Corinthians 15:22-26 NASB
The order of resurrection is clear. Christ is the first fruits, and after that are those who are His. And when does that happen? At His coming. Paul’s teaching is also clear: there is no Rapture taught by Paul until all the dead in Christ will resurrect at His coming.
The beginning of the reign of Christ will come at a given moment in time. That time will involve the resurrection, and the rewarding of the saints will follow. It will be announced with a last trumpet.
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
1 Corinthians 15:52 NASB
but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then the mystery of God is finished, as He preached to His servants the prophets. Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “ The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever.”
Revelation 10:7,11:15 NASB
So ask yourself why is this event (this Trumpet) not a more clear portrayal seeing here an actual trumpet; whereas in the Seventh and “last trumpet” which is stated in Revelation 4:1, is no trumpet at all, but what is sounded there is only a loud voice as a trumpet?
After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, “ Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.”
Revelation 4:1 NASB
So what is the difference? First let’s consider this chapter 4 verse 1 trumpet which in fact doesn’t even exist. This is a voice like the sound of a trumpet. Strong’s Definition
Perhaps from G4535 (through the idea of quavering or reverberation); a trumpet: – trump (-et). A quavering or reverberating voice like a trumpet. But Paul speaks of an actual trumpet to announce the Lords coming to resurrect and rapture the final saints on earth. In fact he says that all those who are dead in Christ will rise first, and then the catching up or rapture will follow this miraculous event. Men who believe the literalness of the word of God and ridicule others for not so doing, in fact, too often do not teach what the literal word so clearly states.
God bless you as you continue your study.
This depicts what is occurring for Christians now.
Please don’t overlook what is happening, and get your lamps full, because you need to do all to stand in these days.
