Why is it called such?  Why not the Father’s Book of life; or God’s Book of life. Or Creation’s Book.  Or why is it not even called David’s book of life, because it is in Psalm 69 that we first hear of it in Scripture.  The reason it seems is clear, there was at its inception only One way to go ahead with Gods plan. It would require the Lamb of God to be slain.

It is revealed to us in Revelation about the Book, even as it is the Revelation that is the unveiling of Jesus Himself the owner of the Book, as it is there that we learn that the Book of Life is His Lamb’s Book.

Although this passage is from the section in Revelation descriptive of the Beast, and it is thus Satan’s main claim to any of the creation; still it is Jesus unveiling as the Lamb to His being slain from creations beginning, which all demands our attention.

For every man not in the Lamb’s Book, will belong otherwise to Satan.  But The Lamb who was worthy has revealed with the opening of the fifth seal the reason for His own worthiness.  It is only so, because He was the One slaughtered before the foundation of the world, men were given full freedom to stand up for His Words given to them, for He was also called The Word of God, and because they stood in their testimony of Him, who is also called the Christ; then their names were not blotted from His Book of Life.

Earlier before John saw this sixth seal opened He had been given the following as a part of this message to the seven churches.

Revelation 3:4  ‘But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, for they are worthy.  5  ‘The one who overcomes will be clothed the same way, in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. (NASB2020)

And thus when John saw the fifth seal opened, he also saw the souls under the alter as they were  being given their own white robes. Given them because they had overcome, and they had not denied Him.  They were worthy, not as the Lamb is worthy, but to have their name recorded there in the Lamb’s book.  They had but a while longer to await their full reward.

Their wait now would be for their Brethren, who were also in the Lamb’s Book.

The Beast, who would arise as a result of Satan’s anger would be worshiped by all others not belonging to this Lamb; this Christ, who is called Jesus.

And for their worship of the beast:

And it is because of this beast that those of the book, the saints are called to full alert.

It is, in fact, all the saints, who have ever lived, who actually make up those in the Lamb’s Book of Life.  This fact, is not readily recognized in the Church today. To many Jesus is only the savior of the Church. Not so.

This Book of Life is such a significant book, yet it is mentioned so few times. But still so significant to understanding Doctrine.

Paul’s mention of this book was only done once in Philippians 4.  Why is this?  It is the only mention in the New Testament outside of Revelation.

If it is not obvious to us by now it certainly should be at some point, that there is only one Lamb of God worthy of managing God’s books.  He was slaughtered to earn title to the book of life.  It is not the book that is the focus of our worship; yet it records everyone, who has life in Him.  And no one who has life has it apart from Him. It is about Him the promised Messiah of God and into Him all men ever written into that book must enter.  That’s right: All men. It is for Him alone that all men, who otherwise would die at the hand of Satan have stood firm in their testimony, and it is through Him alone that they are made worthy of entrance into that Book.  He is the keeper of the Book controlling, who are the dead in Christ.  It is these, who will attain to the first resurrection.  It is only one of many books that will be used at the Judgment, and most books haven’t even a name.   We only know of them because of a mention of the books as being opened and used.  But His book is key.

Praise be to Jesus, God’s Son, our Savior (the Lamb), for He alone is worthy to open the scroll with its seven seals, because He was slain from the foundation of the earth for our entrance into His Lamb’s Book of Life.

Should you desire to learn more about why it is that all saved men from all time are in Christ and thus in His book; then you may want to also read this article; and yes it’s about the rapture. Remember I said that this book of life is about doctrine.
