The piece titled: The Best Argument Against Christianity. It presented the idea that we ourselves, who profess Christ are that best argument against Christianity. The message brought by a Christian apologist made his case, not based on the lack of evidence for Jesus and His life and resurrection; but on the actual walk taken by professing believers in this Christ and in His Finished work here on earth. How could such an argument be made? I thought it could not be, until I read his article. The article is worth considering, but here were my convicting thoughts:
Jesus said: “you are the light of the world”. Our apologist didn’t use that thought , but it was the first thought that entered my mind when thinking on what he did say. And thus the Holy Spirit seemed to be saying to me: just how is your light shining to those around you Jerry? Do those who are in need around you even know that you exist? Are you present in their lives? Do you take them food, or even spiritual food in their time of need. Do they know that you care about them? Do you care Jerry, for if you did, would they not know?
Do you rationalize Jerry, saying: “am I my brother’s keeper” as did Cain, when you are the one I’m depending on to light the path for some around you, those, who you will allow to die spiritually if your light does not shine for them?
These thoughts convicted me. Perhaps this conviction was made even stronger by Pastor Williams message coming back from Sunday, which contained the charge to “go into the world surrounding us.
My prayer to You oh God my Father is this: will you please help me to see the needs and to know how I am to shine Your light to those in whom You desire to use me for Your work in Them. Lord Jesus, I come to You, asking that You deliver this prayer to Our Father, and I am determined to hear and do as The Comforters voice directs: when you send me, I will go.
“My sheep know my voice and they follow.” ( John 10:4) paraphrased.
