There is only one requirement for entry into paradise:
There were two thieves crucified with Jesus that day. Both were likely there to pay for sins, which caused them to be there. One realized that he himself deserved to be there, but he also knew the the one beside him, Jesus, had only shown love for we sinners, for whom He was dying. Only God can reveal that truth to an undeserving sinner.
The difference that God obviously saw in these two sinners was found in the heart. God seeks those possessing a contrite heart. If you know that you are a sinner deserving of God’s punishment; then you can call upon this God, in whom you can find mercy, and the promise of everlasting life.
