I am often challenged for accepting what the Bible clearly states to be good Vs evil. I want to begin here by quoting Spurgeon.

“He that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved; but he that believeth not”-what does the Bible say?-“Shall be damned.” But that does not happen to be polite enough, so they say, “Shall be condemned.” Gentlemen, pull the velvet out of your mouths; speak God’s word; we want none of your alterations. I have heard men in prayer instead of saying, “Make your calling and election sure,” say “Make your calling and salvation sure.” Pity they were not born when God lived far-far back that they might have taught God how to write. C.H.Spurgeon

I’m uncertain that I have ever heard it taught just how we go about making our calling and election sure? It is as though it should be obvious to us. But is it? Jesus says: “many are called but few are chosen”.

It would seem that the calling of men is God’s responsibility. He determines even those who are to be called.

1 Timothy 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (KJV)k

His desire is that every man will be saved, but we know that man does not meet with his desires; for He says: “when I return will faith be found upon the earth?”

So what is God looking for when making His call? And why does Jesus say that many are called but few are chosen?

Psalm 51:17 The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. O God, you do not despise a broken and sorrowful heart. (GOD’S WORD)

If a broken or contrite spirit is what God used to determine His call; then it could be easy to see why not many would even be called, but then we cannot see the heart. So the real question is why are not many chosen? Perhaps it is because there are so many who believe themselves to be better than God at determining what is good and what is evil. God had informed us that this day would come when what is good would be called evil, and what is evil would be called good. But to really make that judgment one must know and accept what God tells us of these two acts: good Vs evil.
