Acts 2:17 ‘AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,’ says God, ‘THAT I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT UPON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE [divinely prompted] VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM [divinely prompted] DREAMS; (AMP)

Last night we were in our men’s group and Jake the leader of our Bible study brought up a dream that he had had, which was unlike other dreams that one would simply forget and move on, even before coming awake. But this dream was not like that. This dream was unforgettable.

Our men present that night, upon hearing, knew that this was God’s message to Jake. And it was to more than just Jake. It was for him to share with those whom God would send his way. But even more, it was for us all not just him, to act upon. It was for us who heard it to pray over.

As we were discussing all this, I had impressed upon me the impact on God’s people that these gifts that we knew to be coming from God would have. Somehow it made our evenings discussion ring loudly true for me. But there was something else that suddenly became true and so clear.

With Jakes dream there was no question in our minds that he had been visited with a message from God. And with a calling. That alone was worth our praise unto God, but the above verse began to call out to me that there is more that God wants from His people.

With Jake, just our knowing him as we do, left me with no question in my mind that this came to him because he hungers after more of God: more of Jesus.

But the verse that God was impressing on me, it also states that your young men shall see visions, and that your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. I was struck all of the sudden, with the question, where are the prophetic words coming from God to our young men and young women today? And where are the visions coming from God to our young men? For God says that without vision the people will perish.

There should be no question for those of us who know the Scriptures what it means to prophesy or to have a vision from God. Yet immediately the question hit me where are the prophesies and where are the visions. More importantly where are the young people who are hungering and thirsting as David did; as Daniel did as Jake was doing after Gods word and His will for their lives.

And what is our part in all of this to give these young people this kind of hunger for God to touch them and to use them?

Our churches are failing to make use of the old men and women who were once young and who had visions or other encounters with our creator God. To share those experiences with the young men and women, for this is the opportunity to create hunger and thirst after God in them, even as the deer panteth after the waters, for these waters are life giving to many.

For Jesus said:

John 7:38 “The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'” (NASB2020)

This living water is to be flowing out to those around us. It will bring life to all those who receive it. We should not be holding in these gifts that Jesus has granted us, for he said: and greater things than these shall you do.

Where is the hunger for God to be seen in our midst, that others would come to know Him?
