What do we know of healing from Scripture? Healings that we see in life are often a mystery. Some believers may acknowledge that they do occur, but may also regard them to be relegated to the early Apostles ministry only. Pastors who have healing ministries often will tell us that they do not know why some are healed, and some are not.

Jesus when here on earth actually paid for two types of healing. One was physical healing, the other was the spiritual healing. We are told that by his stripes, we are healed, but those stripes were not paid for the healing of our soul and our sin, but for the healing of our body. It is to the cross that we go for the forgiveness and the healing needed from our sin.

Some thoughts on James 5 which pretty much covers what we need to think on concerning our healing both spiritual and physical. One thing that strikes me hard from this passage is Vs 16:

James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. (NASB1995)

I have never myself been in a men’s group or even heard of a church where believers followed what James calls for in this verse. I usually don’t even want to think about it myself. With me I’m sure that It’s a pride thing. When I’m around other brothers I’m thinking that I’m the only one dealing with sin and I sure don’t want to confess it to these guys. What will they think?

I think that it is this pride that could keep us from being healed of not only our sin sickness but our physical illnesses as well. And if that is what is blocking our healing and God’s healing through us that would be a real shame. For healing’s glorify God not us.

I have thought to myself: is advocating for following what James says here just an attempt at manipulating God? Would this just be another gimmick? Or could it be that if we were really to do this with an honest contrite heart before God keeping true to His word, that we might just find ourselves made righteous for the purpose of ministry, thus effecting the healing requested. “The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.”

It just may be that God is more ready to heal than we are to be the broken and contrite followers for whom He seeks.
