35.  Until I place your enemies to be a footstool to your feet.[129]

(Acts 2:34-35 (quoting Ps. 110:1)

(see also Heb. 1:13; Mt. 22:44; Mk. 12:36; 1 Corinthians 15:20-28)

“Clearly the Father has stated here that He will make Messiah’s enemies His footstool.” One writer with whom I agree made this statement.

“This passage clearly states that the Messiah will remain at the right hand of the father until his enemies are made his footstool in the 1,000 year Kingdom.  This passage clearly teaches the rapture will not occur until after the tribulation, at the beginning of 1,000 year Kingdom.

But, a statement such as this must be explained, for how do we know this based on what is stated concerning Christ and the footstool in this scripture?”*

Psalm 110:1 (A Psalm of David.) The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Psalm 110:2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

Psalm 110:5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.

Psalm 110:6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.

Psalm 110:7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head. (KJV)

This psalm is revealing, but it is not the only teaching concerning the footstool. What we read in Ephesians 1:22 gives the understanding that this promise of Psalm 110 is perhaps already fulfilled — Listen:

Ephesians 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, (KJV)

So, does this mean that Jesus’ enemies are already under His feet? It must for all is all, is it not ? But, is this placement of them under His feet, the fulfillment of Psalm 110:6? It is argued by Amillianial believers that Christ is covertly doing these things today in His present rule from the right hand of His Father and thus He is over the nations. But this is not what Psalm 110 states — “sit” “until”. So this present time is not what the Father has in mind in Psalm 110. Additionally, if this is the meaning of Paul’s statement in Ephesians then Christ has already given the rule back to the Father. Listen:

1 Corinthians 15:28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. (KJV)

But Paul makes clear in this 1 Corinthians passage that more must be done by Christ before this will happen. For example:

1 Corinthians 15:26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. (KJV)

Is death destroyed, some say yes, Christ conquered death at His resurrection, and indeed He did conquer it as the first fruits, but are not people still dying all around us? Death will one day be destroyed. Death is certainly not yet destroyed, but one day it is promised to be. So there are obvious stages to the placement of Jesus’ enemies under His feet. “Until I make thy enemies a footstool.” In Psalm 110:6, He will Judge among the heathen. This obviously means that there is a time when He will be given rule over His enemies. But the enemies that He intends to kill or destroy are not yet destroyed, and they must be destroyed before death itself is destroyed. Once death is destroyed there can be no more death or destruction.

So when The Father speaks of making His enemies a footstool in Psalm 110 the phase of that making is obviously Messiah’s rule on earth. And this is obviously why He will be seated at the Fathers right hand until this time. The millennial kingdom then is not until He takes up an earthly rule. This is post-Tribulational Timing. And it will not happen until after Israel the nation calls upon Him:

Hosea 5:15 I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early. (KJV)

This is why we see Him rescuing them from Antichrists Armageddon battle aimed at their destruction (Isa 63:1-8).

This is how His garments are stained by blood when He Comes back in Glory with us following the Resurrection.

And once the millennial rule is complete then He will hand all rule back to His Father. After His enemies are destroyed.
